Growing interest in the Korean language "Hangeul" raises the status of Korea in the 21st century.
 

As many Korean companies successfully ventured into the worldwide market, interest in Korean culture and enterprises increased during the past several years.
The Korean Language Institute at Yonsei University, the leader in Korean language Education, has prepared ¡°The Online Korean Language Program¡±, co-developed with an e-learning company, ¡°Cylang.com(FORESCO co,. Ltd)¡± to create an Internet-infrastructure Korean language education program.
First, this program offers 18 courses through the E-campus(Samsung SDS, Ltd.) in English, Japanese, and Chinese versions. With this program, Koreans living overseas as well as foreign workers can learn ¡°Hangeul¡± from the experts.
KLI and Cylang are in the process to offer this course through many portal sites in Japan, a country with the biggest Korean language education market. Our company will participate in ¡°The Korea Study Abroad & Language Fair¡± (which is held in Osaka on October 7~9) as a part of the Korean-Japanese cultural exchange 2005) with Yonsei University.
¡°Learn KOREAN language¡± program grasps learners¡¯ linguistic capabilities in each language and provides various learning methods to master the language. Currently, this program is available only in English, Japanese, and Chinese language versions, but we are in process of creating it for other languages as well. KLI and Cylang created this program not only to participate in teaching the Korean language, but to help spread the knowledge of the Korean culture.

 
Setting a standard in Korean Distance Learning Programs
  Some of the existing universities and the governments recognized the necessity of Korean language education and developed the language programs based on the internet. However, some of those programs had inadequate teaching methods, which did not coincide with the contents and had unorganized lectures.
We found these errors, and through thorough analysis of the curriculum, we came up with new linguistic methods that had step-by-step program that targeted each learning level.
 
Offering the additional "Orientation"
  It is essential to provide and understand the background of Hangeul and structural principles of consonants and vowels in ways to prevent learner¡¯s errors in conversations and vocabularies. To prevent this common mistake, we inserted the function of Action Script which combines the essentials like watching, listening, speaking, and writing. Therefore, Korean can be learned with more interest and ease.
 
Basic principles of the Korean language program's development
 

- Focus on the learner¡¯s interest and always pay attention to their possible difficulties
- Organize dialogues to learner¡¯s level, and diversify the content
- Inform learners of the learning time
- Use spoken language and simple narrations
- Give outline of the lecture and give abstract examples
- Offer summaries of the lessons
- Offer self-test
To conclude, the main objective of this course is to offer realistic and interesting conversations, with varied exercises and easy practical grammar explanations.
It is important to provide specific learning objective of each lesson. Therefore, we developed Flash Animations to help learners¡¯ studies. There are continuous pronunciation exercises with grammar studies so that learners can easily overcome the differences between their native language and Korean.

Self-tests are made up of following methods:
- Subjective test: chart completion, short-answer questions, and fill in the blanks.
- Objective test: crosswords, multiple-choice questions, matching, sequence, true or false, synonym exercises, and picture
   exercises.

These programs are also available in PDF formatted writing worksheets. These worksheets help learners review each day¡¯s lesson. MP3 files of each lecture are also available for downloads.
